Social Group

Our Group
The Social Group serves the Parish in fostering a community spirit through the simple provision of teas and coffees to various groups. The Group is formed of parishioners who are willing to provide a small amount of time throughout the year and have an interest in social connections; being able to bake is a plus but is not at all essential.
The Groups most regular commitment is the provision of cups of tea or coffee with small cakes or scones, free of charge, to parishioners after the 10am Mass on Thursdays in the Parish Centre. These mornings are very popular and attract a regular number of both men and women, who come to enjoy a chat and a chance to meet friends and neighbours. This service runs from September to the end of June and is provided by a rota of Social Group members with a turn of two people on duty approximately once every two months; with present membership it means that each person is asked to serve about 5 times a year.
The Group also asks for volunteers from its members to provide refreshments after Parish events, these are usually following an evening Mass or service and include important days such as the Mass for deceased parishioners, the celebration of marriage and the Good Friday Prayers around the Cross. These events usually require 3 or 4 helpers, members volunteer after seeing the dates in our bi-monthly rota news letter. Occasionally the Group is asked to provide refreshments for special meetings of other Parish Groups and this gives us a chance to meet others who contribute to the community.
Anne McMahon, who is a long standing member of the Social Group, organises the twice yearly Cake Sales (before Christmas and in the early summer) which have become a very popular and well supported tradition in the Parish. These two days are times when we ask all our members to pull out the stops and support the sale with home produced goods and baking or donations to the raffle and help serve on the day. Parishioners are also generous in donating breads and cakes and in buying the many delectable goods; all profits from the sales go Parish funds.
The Social Group always welcomes new members, especially if an increase in membership could allow further development of its services. Please contact the undersigned if you would like to join us.
